STAMFORD, Conn.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Harman International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE: HAR) announced today that Rajat Gupta has been appointed to serve as a member of the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Gupta will fill a vacancy on the Board and will serve under this appointment until December 2011, at which time he will stand for reelection to the Board through the Company's normal process.

Mr. Gupta is currently a Senior Partner Emeritus of McKinsey & Company, the global management consulting firm, where he served from 1994 to 2003 as Managing Director. He currently serves as a director of Goldman Sachs, Procter & Gamble, Genpact and AMR Corporation. He also serves on the Board of Rockefeller Foundation, World Economic Forum and Millennium Promise. In addition, Mr. Gupta is the Chairman of the Board of the Indian School of Business, as well as on the Board of Associates of the Harvard Business School, and the Dean's Advisory Board for the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University. He is Chairman of the Board of the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and co-Chair of the American India Foundation. Mr. Gupta holds a Bachelor's of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
