CLARINDA, IA--(Marketwire - June 9, 2009) - Naturally Iowa, Inc. (
"From the Nation's Capitol to the largest government procurement conference, Naturally Iowa's bio-based water bottles are showing the Federal sector how products made from renewable resources can be easily incorporated into our daily operations," said Ron Buckhalt, BioPreferred Program Manager for the United States Department of Agriculture. "These water bottles are just one example of the more than 3,000 BioPreferred bio-based products that are helping us lessen our dependency on petroleum and adopt more green operations."
Attendees at the 2009 GSA Expo, including many of the most senior purchasing managers for leading departments and agencies of the U.S. Government, enjoyed the award-winning fresh taste of Green Bottle Spring Water, which utilizes fully compostable bottles made from plants, not oil. These innovative plant-based bottles conserve petroleum resources and address the concerns regarding end-of-life issues and disposal of plastic water bottles.
"As the hosts of the National GSA Expo here in San Antonio, we are proud to feature Naturally Iowa's Green Bottle Spring Water as the only bottled water offered at the convention," said Elias Aguirre of the RK Group LLC, food service manager of the convention. "It is truly great to see that there is a bottled water with packaging made from plants, not oil, that is 100% compostable and meets U.S. Government specifications to qualify as a BioPreferred vendor."
Mr. Aguirre's comments were echoed by GSA itself, which said in a statement, "GSA is committed to the environment and uses green products and services daily. Our annual EXPO is no exception. We are happy that we are able to provide our customers with bottled water that is packaged in an environmentally friendly way."
Bill Horner, native Iowa farmer, agricultural entrepreneur and founder of Naturally Iowa, spoke of his dream, now being realized, to begin converting segments of the U.S. Government to more sustainable and environmentally responsible products. "The response from government purchasing managers to sustainable products like our Green Bottle Spring Water is very gratifying," said Mr. Horner, a long-time advocate for solutions to the disposal and environmental problems of traditional plastic water bottles. "I have been very impressed by the many purchasing professionals visiting our booth who have spoken knowledgably and with dedication about their desire to convert their agencies to products made with bio-based plastics that reduce waste and conserve resources. With our expanded regional sales team in the East, Midwest and West, we plan to capitalize on the momentum from this conference to bring Green Bottle Spring Water to additional sectors of the purchasing, food service and commissary systems of the U.S. Government."
Previously, it was announced that the water used in Naturally Iowa's Green Bottle Spring Water won the Gold Medal as "Best Bottled Water in the World" at the largest and longest-running water tasting competition. Green Bottle Spring Water also gained distribution in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Washington, DC headquarters, and the company was selected as a "BioPreferred" supplier to the U.S. Government. Additionally, Green Bottle Spring Water was chosen as the exclusive bottled water for the food service venues at the U.S. House of Representatives as part of its "Green the Capitol" Initiative.
