CLARINDA, IA--(Marketwire - May 26, 2009) - Naturally Iowa, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: [ NLIA ]), a leading manufacturer and distributor of value-added bottled spring water and dairy products, announced that company CEO Bill Horner delivered keynote addresses this week at international conferences in sustainable packaging and best practices held in San Jose, Costa Rica and Bogota, Colombia. The conferences were facilitated and hosted by Cosalco, a major international packaging equipment manufacturer and supplier to the beverage industry with offices in four countries in Latin America.

"It was a distinct honor to be able to address senior beverage and packaging executives at these two conferences, and to offer them ideas about implementing best practices in sustainable packaging," said Horner, agricultural entrepreneur, native Iowa farmer and founder of Naturally Iowa. "The beverage industry in Latin America is growing rapidly, and enlightened executives are increasingly interested in finding new solutions to the problems of packaging waste and the use of petroleum in packaging. Naturally Iowa has used sustainable packaging exclusively since our founding, and our compostable bottles are made from plants, not oil, thereby reducing waste and saving precious resources. The executives that I addressed at these two conferences showed an impressive knowledge of sustainability issues and a real dedication to best practices in responsible packaging."

Eng. Alvaro I. Lopez, founder and President of Cosalco, noted that the demand for fully-compostable bottles is growing throughout Latin America. "Our customers in many countries in Central and South America are unified in their focus on sustainable packaging," said Lopez. "Cosalco is continually researching the world of packaging to see how we can improve, and to learn what new steps in responsible packaging we can bring to our customers and to our geographic regions. We were very impressed with Naturally Iowa's dedication to sustainability in beverage packaging, as exemplified by their new Green Bottle™ Spring Water. When the time came to select a keynote speaker for the two conferences, Bill Horner seemed like the logical choice."

Horner noted that the sustainability efforts of Naturally Iowa and Cosalco fit into a larger global perspective. "Responsible packaging is a growing trend worldwide," said Horner. "I see impressive initiatives in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, North America and now Central and South America. Naturally Iowa was the first to implement fully-compostable dairy packaging in the United States, but we are merely one of the many new programs that are emerging across the globe. Cosalco is leading the charge in Central and South America. I salute Alvaro, his team and the many beverage companies in this growing region who are developing responsible packaging programs using compostable, plant-based materials. These efforts will be of significant value in the worldwide movement to create new solutions in sustainable packaging."

Previously, it was announced that the water used in Naturally Iowa's Green Bottle™ Spring Water won the Gold Medal as "Best Bottled Water in the World" at the largest and longest-running water tasting competition. Green Bottle™ Spring Water also gained distribution in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Washington, DC headquarters, and the company was selected as a "BioPreferred" supplier to the U.S. Government. Additionally, Green Bottle™ Spring Water was chosen as the exclusive bottled water for the food service venues at the U.S. House of Representatives as part of its "Green the Capitol" Initiative.
