LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 22, 2009) - African Copper Plc (the "Company" or "African Copper") (AIM:ACU)(BOTSWANA:AFRICAN COPPER) today announces the appointment of two new directors to the Board of the Company, David Rodier and Jordan Soko. In addition, it is announced that Michael Evans has resigned from the Board and Roy Corrans will step down from his current role of Chairman but will remain on the Board.

The Board would like to express its sincere gratitude to Mr. Evans for his contributions to African Copper, and wishes him every success in his future endeavours. The Board would also like to thank Mr Corrans for his invaluable contributions as Chairman.

David Rodier, 65, will be appointed as the new Chairman of the Board. He is currently a director of Zambia Copper Investments Limited (Bermuda). He has not been a director of any other company during the last five years. David gained his extensive working experience in the non-ferrous industry, starting with Cominco in British Columbia, (now Teck-Cominco) and later for Noranda Inc. where he was employed for 35 years and where he was involved with zinc and copper recycling. His experience includes a wide range of technical and managerial positions in zinc and copper businesses including: Senior Vice President, Environment Safety and Health at Noranda between 1998 and 2002; Senior Vice President, Copper & Recycling at Noranda between 1995 and 1997; and President of Canadian Electrolytic Zinc between 1992 and 1995. David was Noranda's delegate to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the International Council for Mining and Metals, the International Zinc Association, the International Copper Association, the Mining Association of Canada and the Canadian Chemical Producers Association.

Jordan Soko, 46, is currently a director of the following companies:

- African Explosives plc (Zambia);

- Lumwana Mining Co Limited (Zambia);

- Centrepoint Properties Limited (Zambia)

- iCapital (Mauritius) Limited (Mauritius)

- iCapital Limited (Zambia)

- Covest Limited (Mauritius)

He is currently a director of the Copper Development Association Africa (Republic of South Africa). He was also a director of Madison General Insurance Company Zambia Limited until 2007.

Mr Soko brings experience of developing and operating copper mines in Southern Africa as a director of Lumwana Mining Company, the largest single copper mine in Africa, and as a former senior executive at Konkola Copper Mines plc. Through the Copper Development Association, he brings understanding of the "demand side" of the copper industry.
