VAUDREUIL-DORION, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 18, 2009) - Rocmec Mining inc. (TSX VENTURE:RMI)(FRANKFURT:D5O) is pleased to announce that is has attained optimal daily production from its treatment plant installed underground at the Rocmec 1 property. The initial "breaking in" and start-up periods took longer than expected especially due a long awaited interior screen for the "sag mill".
Management is encouraged by the fact that preliminary results demonstrate a significant increase in gold recovery by the Knelson concentrator and a definite decrease in the amounts of sulphur concentrate. Maintaining this trend will be a major factor in noticeably reducing operating costs.
A first 290 Kg shipment of gold concentrate (Knelson concentrator) was sent to the Johnson-Matthey refinery located in Ontario, Canada at the beginning of the month and a second shipment will be sent to the refinery this week. As of March 2009, shipments to the refinery will be conducted twice per month. Final grades will be known once treatment is completed by the refiner.
With regards to the surface diamond drill campaign, Rocmec has received tenders from several contractors and a decision will be made in the coming weeks. Drilling will be targeting the Boucher structure located between the 150 and 400 metre levels from surface.
Management is also pleased to inform that two new thermal units, renamed Dragon 1 and 2 have been delivered, one of which is already at work at Rocmec 1 and the second is ready to be shipped and employed for our service contracts. Additionally, Rocmec personnel have developed a totally new thermal unit named the mini-Dragon, especially designed to operate in sub-level drifts measuring no more than 1.1m X 2m.
Regarding service contracts, Rocmec's main focus for the foreseeable future will be operating mining companies located in the United States, Mexico, Canada, South Africa and Peru. Current negotiations are well underway with several mining companies. On site visits and information requests pertaining to the thermal fragmentation mining process have been steadily increasing over the past months.
