RENTON, WA--(Marketwire - March 17, 2009) - Wizards of the Coast rolls another "natural 20" this year as they expand the collection of rulebooks and game play opportunities for all Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) players -- past, present and future.
"Today marks the beginning of a new level of play for D&D players worldwide," said Scott Rouse, Senior Brand Manager for D&D at Wizards of the Coast. "With the amount of content now available to players -- through the first set of core rulebooks, our online resources and as we introduce the second set of core rulebooks -- D&D players will be able to further push the limits of creativity and imagination while appealing to that familiar sense of nostalgia."
New Products, Classic Gaming
Fans of the bard who were disappointed to be left out of last year's 4th Edition release are now able to happily return to the game table. The Player's Handbook 2, which releases today, includes details on this popular class as well as seven others, expanding the game to even further reaches of creativity and imagination.
Additionally, Dungeon Masters (DM) who have been waiting for a chance to unleash a rust monster or the mighty Demogorgon on their party will have the details they need to do so with the release of the Monster Manual 2 on May 19, 2009. In addition, DMs can continue running a party through the wringer with the Dungeon Master's Guide 2 on September 15, 2009, which includes the re-imagined Planescape locale Sigil, The City of Doors for challenging the party's teamwork and adventuring skills.
The new rulebooks will support more higher-level game play with expanded options for character creation, NPCs, encounter building and (of course) monsters. Following the release of each book, all of the content in the new rulebooks will be made available online to D&D Insider subscribers, via the Character Builder application and D&D Compendium.
Opportunities to Play
Players who are new to 4th Edition or new to D&D in general will have several opportunities to experience the fun and exciting new approach to table-top roleplaying games.
With the release of each new core rulebook, Wizards of the Coast will be hosting D&D Game Days, providing game day kits to participating locations around the world with exclusive adventure content and characters. With more than 1,250 registered locations so far, thousands of players will be able to join the excitement in playing exclusive adventures and extending their D&D experience.
Dates for these events are:
- March 21, 2009 -- Player's Handbook 2 Game Day
- May 23, 2009 -- Monster Manual 2 Game Day
- September 19, 2009 -- Dungeon Master's Guide 2 Game Day
