WABCO Showcases OnGuardPLUS Collision-Avoidance Assistance Technology, a Breakthrough Emergency Braking System, at Mid-America Trucking Show
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, and LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY--(Marketwire - March 23, 2012) - WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE:WBC), ([ www.wabco-auto.com ]) a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, is featuring its breakthrough OnGuardPLUS™ collision-avoidance assistance technology at the 2012 Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) through March 24. OnGuardPLUS - which builds on WABCO's industry-leading OnGuard™ collision mitigation system (CMS) - is the industry's first advanced emergency braking system (AEBS), thus offering significantly greater levels of vehicle safety and driver effectiveness.
OnGuardPLUS uses forward-looking radar to monitor traffic ahead. It reduces risk of colliding with moving vehicles and decelerating vehicles ahead that come to a standstill. It fully applies brakes in imminent collision situations. It provides the driver with acoustic, visual and haptic warnings. It autonomously initiates emergency braking, enables maximum possible deceleration and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
In the event of stationary vehicles ahead such as when approaching traffic congestion, the system warns the driver and autonomously applies partial braking. This advanced safety function is the industry's only innovation of its kind in North America.
WABCO recently disclosed a long-term agreement to supply more than 50,000 OnGuardPLUS systems annually to the European operations of a global manufacturer of commercial vehicles beginning in the third quarter of 2013. The company also previously disclosed a long-term OnGuardPLUS supply agreement for trucks made by Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles.
"WABCO's OnGuardPLUS is the commercial vehicle industry's first and most advanced emergency braking system, marking another major achievement in safety innovation and further strengthening our technology leadership in North America and worldwide," said Nikhil Varty, WABCO Vice President, Americas. "OnGuardPLUS further demonstrates why WABCO leads the industry in the number of introductions of breakthrough technologies to improve vehicle safety and efficiency."
OnGuardPLUS is WABCO's newest generation of collision-avoidance assistance technology. It is built on WABCO's breakthrough OnGuard system, which was launched in 2008. Today, market leading OnGuard is onboard vehicles built by three of the four major truck manufacturers in North America.
