Wabash National Backs Government Standards on Fuel Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles
LAFAYETTE, IN--(Marketwire - May 26, 2010) - Wabash National Corporation (
President Obama directed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Transportation to set these national requirements on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles starting in model year 2014.
A representative of Wabash National was on hand for last week's event at the White House as a member of the Heavy-Duty Fuel Efficiency Leadership Group. The group is a diverse coalition of medium- and heavy-duty fleets and technology providers, formed in January 2010 to inform and support a workable national program to reduce GHG emissions and improve the fuel efficiency of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
"Improving fuel efficiency and developing new aerodynamic solutions has been a growing trend in our industry over the past 5 years," said President and CEO, Dick Giromini. "We recognize and support the need for a well-designed regulatory structure that results in substantial fuel efficiency gains and GHG reductions."
Wabash National continually works to provide innovative solutions based on current market trends.
In July 2009, Wabash National's DuraPlate Products Group launched the DuraPlate AeroSkirt®, an innovative new aerodynamic accessory for semi-trailers. Testing verified that a trailer equipped with the DuraPlate AeroSkirt can provide a 6 percent fuel efficiency improvement.
