CAMDEN, N.J.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Campbell Soup Company (NYSE: CPB) today announced its support of the new voluntary, front-of-package nutrition labeling initiative announced earlier today by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI).

The simple, fact-based system will consist of a set of symbols designed to help consumers understand and make better use of the information in the Nutrition Facts panel. The symbols, called aNutrition Keys,a will highlight important nutrition information, such as the amount of calories and other nutrients to limit or encourage in the diet. Campbell plans to begin including the symbols on appropriately-sized packages across its portfolio of healthy beverages, baked snacks, and simple meals in 2011 and 2012.

Douglas R. Conant, Campbella™s President and Chief Executive Officer, said, aWe believe it is essential to help consumers make informed food choices. The new Nutrition Keys icons will make it easier for people to understand important information about what they are eating as they strive to maintain a healthier diet. Campbell is pleased to support the launch of this effort both through labeling and consumer education efforts together with other food and beverage manufacturers and retailers.a

Conant is Chair of GMAa™s Health and Wellness Committee.

Campbella™s participation in the labeling initiative is consistent with the companya™s commitment to providing health and wellness options in the marketplace and the workplace. The company continues to work with other members of GMA and FMI to design and implement this voluntary system and to launch a consumer communications program to support its introduction.
