  • The current owner in Dolton, Illinois, hit the real estate jackpot when Pope Leo XIV was elected the leader of the Catholic Church this month.

The childhood home of Pope Leo XIII in Chicago, located at 1120 N. Cleveland Ave., is set to be transformed into a museum and cultural center dedicated to his life and legacy. Born Vincenzo Gioacchino Raffaele Luigi Pecci in 1810, Pope Leo XIII, who served as pope from 1878 to 1903, is remembered for his efforts in social justice and his encyclical "Rerum Novarum," which addressed the rights and duties of capital and labor. The initiative to convert the home into a museum is led by the Archdiocese of Chicago, aiming to preserve the historical significance of the site and educate visitors about the pope's contributions to the Catholic Church and society. The project includes plans for exhibits, educational programs, and community events to engage the public and honor Pope Leo XIII's enduring influence.
