Jamie Varner to Represent RYU at UFC on FOX Shogun vs. Vera
RYU to Have First Presence for UFC on FOX
LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - Jul 31, 2012) - Today, Respect Your Universe, Inc. (RYU) (
Jamie Varner, a Lightweight fighter from Arizona has a professional record of 20-6-1 MMA win/loss/draw. He recently represented RYU at UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir in May 2012 where he spoiled the then perfect record of striker Edson Barboza by stunning first round TKO. Fan favorite Varner's victory served to derail Barboza's rise to title contention while instantly catapulting himself into the contender scene in the UFC lightweight division. The win over Barbosa was his third in a row coming off victories at XFC 14, defeating Nate Jolly via knockout in the first round, and XFC 16: High Stakes, defeating Drew Fickett via strikes at just 40 seconds into the very first round. Varner was previously the WEC Lightweight Champion, a title he earned and then defended twice, eventually losing to now UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson.
"I really appreciate the opportunity to represent and work with RYU again for this fight. It's a great brand with awesome gear and good people that offer top notch support for fighters like me," said Jamie Varner. "I'm looking forward to another exciting win for my fans."
In addition to the Jamie Varner sponsorship, RYU will also have its first television presence for UFC on FOX. The RYU logo will be prominently displayed on the octagon bumpers.
For the weigh-ins, Varner will be wearing the RYU Icon Pant, Tanto Compression Shorts, Full Zip Fleece Hoodie, Isshin Long Sleeve top and RYU Signature White Cap. For Varner's walkout, he will sport the RYU Tanto Compression Shorts and RYU Signature Black Cap with the corners wearing the RYU Americana Tee and RYU Signature White Cap.
