With more rain in the forecast following Tuesday's extensive flooding across south-central Kansas, 12 News spoke with a home inspector about key signs to look out for to protect your home.

A home inspector in Wichita, Kansas, is providing guidance on mitigating flood damage risks as the area braces for another round of rain. The inspector emphasizes the importance of ensuring proper drainage around homes, clearing gutters and downspouts, and checking sump pumps to ensure they are functioning correctly. Additionally, elevating appliances and valuables in basements and using sandbags or other barriers to prevent water from entering homes are recommended. The inspector also advises homeowners to review their insurance policies to understand coverage for flood damage, as standard policies often do not include it. With these proactive measures, residents can better protect their homes from potential flooding.
