  • The senseless killing devastated Synthia Elliott's family and friends, who showed up in droves to the Wednesday sentencing for one of the four men charged with her murder.

An Omaha man, identified as 23-year-old Jamarion Thomas, was sentenced to 60 to 80 years in prison for the shooting death of 15-year-old C'Eris Coleman. The incident occurred on May 14, 2023, when Thomas fired multiple shots into a home on North 37th Street, mistakenly targeting the residence due to a feud with another individual. C'Eris, who was inside the house, was struck in the head and later died from her injuries. Thomas pleaded no contest to charges including second-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and first-degree assault. The sentencing was handed down by Douglas County District Judge Peter Bataillon, who highlighted the tragic and senseless nature of the crime, noting that C'Eris was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of gang-related violence.
