WABCO Showcases Technology Breakthrough for Hybrid-Driven Trucks and Buses at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2012; Presents Industry's First Electronic Braking System for Hybrid Vehicles
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM and HANOVER, GERMANY--(Marketwire - Sept. 18, 2012) - WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE:WBC), ([ www.wabco-auto.com ]) a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, today showcased its breakthrough electronic braking system (EBS) for hybrid-driven trucks and buses - the industry's first EBS technology that optimally adapts to a wide range of commercial vehicle types and different drivelines - at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2012 in Hanover, Germany.
WABCO's newest generation of EBS provides hybrid-driven commercial vehicles with optimal energy recovery across the industry's diverse drivelines by recuperating the vehicle's braking energy in most of the brake actions. It significantly extends the company's range of hybrid-related technologies that help original equipment manufacturers to advance vehicle efficiency and improve environmental friendliness.
In addition, WABCO's breakthrough OptiDrive™ automated manual transmission (AMT) system and the company's other AMT technologies support hybrid drivelines. By automating and optimizing gear shifting, OptiDrive and other AMT systems from WABCO can reduce the vehicle's fuel consumption up to 5 percent.
Another breakthrough is WABCO's e-comp™, the electrically driven air compressor that is specially engineered to utilize recovered energy in hybrid and pure electric vehicles. Furthermore, WABCO's FuelGuard™, a new generation of electronic air processing unit, monitors the vehicle's driving conditions for efficient energy recuperation in the vehicle's overrun phases. WABCO's innovative e-comp and FuelGuard in combination provide potential for further fuel savings.
"Our newest electronic braking technology for hybrid vehicles marks another breakthrough in energy recuperation, further extending WABCO's technology leadership in support of hybrid and electric drivelines," said Jean-Christophe Figueroa, WABCO Vice President, Vehicle Control Systems. "WABCO innovations in electronic braking, transmission automation and air management further enable hybrid systems for trucks and buses, which are projected by their manufacturers to deliver fuel savings up to 35 percent, a major environmental benefit over a vehicle's lifetime."
