HICKSVILLE, NY--(Marketwire - October 1, 2009) - A unique Portable Transparent Ballistic Shield offered by American Defense Systems, Inc. (ADSI) (NYSE Amex: [ EAG ]), a leading provider of advanced transparent and opaque armor, architectural hardening and security products for Defense and Homeland Security, has received the recommendation by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) and its highest rating for design, quality, and durability.

The NTOA member-tested and recommendation program is designed as a service to assist the association's membership in selecting the best products available to the tactical community.

Following a field reevaluation by members of the law enforcement community, the NTOA determined ADSI's portable transparent ballistic shield "exceeded the advertised specifications on a regular basis and outperformed others in usefulness and quality of workmanship." This NTOA review will soon be published in The Tactical Edge journal and on the online database at [ www.ntoa.org/mtp/public/list.php ].

"All of our personnel agreed that this would be an excellent tool to effect a downed officer rescue," said one of the evaluating police officers. "The ballistic protection would allow a team to simply roll up to a position to effect a rescue."

The shield provides 72" x 30" of Level IV NIJ relatively lightweight ballistic protection and incorporates hydraulic or manual controls which allow for easy maneuverability. Its complete head-to-toe ballistic coverage is ideally suited for SWAT or hostage negotiation teams.

"Another scenario where this would be useful is the active school shooter," the officer noted. "This shield would allow a team to roll right down a hallway towards a threat. To have one of these pre-positioned within a large high school or middle school would definitely give a team the edge when moving to the threat. Given the weight of the shield, its forward momentum would easily overcome the impact of bullet impacts and allow a team to continue its rush forward."

While the ADSI shield received the NTOA's highest scores for design, quality, and durability, because the test unit was equipped with ADSI's strongest and heaviest level of transparent protection capable of stopping a high-powered assault rifle at close range, it received above average ratings for size, versatility and application. However, the shield can be customized at the factory and accessorized in the field to meet particular needs or applications. For example, it can be outfitted with lighter transparent protection suitable for more common threats, like handguns, as well as side mounted shields for more complete protection all around.

ADSI's chief executive officer, Anthony J. Piscitelli, commented: "This very prestigious award by a leading and highly respected law enforcement organization is a strong affirmation of the highly quality of design and craftsmanship we provide. We believe it reflects our dedication to providing our brave first responders with the highest level of protection as they perform their noble task of preserving lives and enforcing the law."

The shield will be on display at the ADSI booth at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Ninth Annual Conference being held in Denver, Colorado on October 4-6, 2009 ([ www.theiacpconference.org ]).
