For over 150 years, the Mohawk Tannery served as a cornerstone of Nashua's industrial identity. Established in the mid-19th century, the tannery benefited from Nashua's access to both water power - crucial for the tanning process - and a growing textile industry that provided a ready market for leather goods. The smell of tanning chemicals was, for generations, synonymous with the city itself.
