Orland Park Man Identified After Death, Investigation Underway

ORLAND PARK, Ill. - March 23, 2026 - Authorities have officially identified the man found deceased earlier this week in his Orland Park home as Jeremy J. Deering, 45. While initial reports indicate no immediate signs of foul play, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting a full investigation to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Orland Park Police Department responded to a welfare check at Mr. Deering's residence on Wednesday, March 18th, after concerns were raised by a family member who hadn't been able to reach him. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mr. Deering unresponsive inside the home. Paramedics were immediately called to the scene, but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We are treating this as a death investigation, and are proceeding with all due diligence," stated Sergeant Maria Rodriguez, spokesperson for the Orland Park Police Department. "Although preliminary observations suggest a natural cause, we must ensure a thorough examination is completed to provide closure for the family and to rule out any other possibilities."

Mr. Deering was a long-time resident of Orland Park, known locally for his involvement in the community youth sports programs. He was a dedicated volunteer coach for the Orland Park Spartans baseball league for over ten years, and was well-regarded by parents and players alike. Several parents have taken to social media expressing their shock and grief, describing Mr. Deering as a "positive influence" and a "wonderful man".

"Jeremy was always there for the kids," commented Sarah Miller, a parent whose son played on Mr. Deering's team. "He wasn't just a coach; he was a mentor. He always emphasized sportsmanship and having fun, even more than winning. This is a devastating loss for everyone."

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office is currently performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Results are expected within the next several days. The investigation is focused on gathering information regarding Mr. Deering's medical history and recent activities. Police are also canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with neighbors to gather any relevant information that might aid in their investigation.

While police stress there is currently no indication of foul play, standard investigative procedures are being followed, including a forensic examination of the scene. This involves collecting and analyzing any potential evidence, reviewing security footage from nearby properties, and conducting interviews with individuals who knew Mr. Deering.

This incident underscores the importance of regular welfare checks on vulnerable individuals, particularly those living alone. Local senior centers and community organizations offer programs designed to connect with residents and provide assistance when needed. The Orland Park Village offers a "Check-In Program" where volunteers regularly call or visit elderly or disabled residents to ensure their well-being.

The unexpected death of Jeremy Deering has deeply saddened the Orland Park community. Local leaders are expressing their condolences to the Deering family and are offering support during this difficult time. The Village of Orland Park is planning to honor Mr. Deering's memory with a moment of silence at the next Village Board meeting.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case to contact the Orland Park Police Department at (708) 341-8800. Further updates will be provided as they become available. The family has requested privacy at this time.
