Madison is taking a significant step towards addressing its housing crisis with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Triangle Apartments, a new affordable housing development located at 1318 Williamson Street. The Triangle Apartments, a collaboration between Gorman Company Inc., the City of Madison, and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA), will consist of 138 units spread across four buildings. These units will be available at rents affordable to households earning up to 60% of Dane County’s Area Median Income (AMI). This translates to a significant portion of the workforce – teachers, healthcare workers, retail employees, and others vital to the city's functioning – who currently face immense challenges in securing housing.

The need for affordable housing in Madison is undeniable. The LIHTC program, in particular, plays a crucial role in financing affordable housing developments across the country by incentivizing investors to provide capital in exchange for tax benefits. WHEDA’s involvement highlights the state's commitment to addressing housing needs throughout Wisconsin.

The groundbreaking ceremony itself was attended by city officials, representatives from Gorman Company Inc., WHEDA staff, and community members eager to witness the start of this transformative project.
