Russell Breweries Inc.: Fort Garry Kona Imperial Stout Wins Silver at Canadian Brewing Awards
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - June 13, 2012) - Fort Garry Brewing Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Russell Breweries Inc. (TSX VENTURE:RB), was awarded a silver medal at the Canadian Brewing Awards on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 in Montreal for their Kona Imperial Stout.
Kona Imperial Stout is a strong, dark beer brewed in a limited batch using six types of malts, two types of hops and fifty pounds of medium-dark roast coffee beans harvested and roasted in Kona, Hawaii. It has a powerful combination of coffee, malt and hop flavours that finish with a robust and balanced taste.
"We are thrilled that Fort Garry was recognized with a silver medal at the 2012 Canadian Brewing Awards," said Andrew Harris, President Russell Breweries Inc. "Fort Garry has been brewing quality beers since 1930 and we look forward to continuing to build on this legacy with the release of a series of new specialty beers like the Kona Imperial Stout."
Canadian Brewing Awards
The Canadian Brewing Awards are the premiere competition for judging the quality of Canadian brewed beer. The contest invites breweries of all sizes from across the country to compete in a blind tasting. A Canadian Brewing Award medal is now a widely recognized symbol of brewing excellence in Canada. A panel of approximately 25 Certified Beer Judges (BJCP) consider five criteria: aroma, appearance, flavour, mouth-feel, and overall impression when judging the beer. This year, there were 559 beers in 37 categories entered into this year's competition from 96 Canadian breweries.
Fort Garry Brewing Company
Fort Garry Brewing Company is Manitoba's oldest microbrewery and is the sister brewery to Russell Brewing Company in British Columbia. Both breweries are wholly owned subsidiaries of Russell Breweries Inc., a public company trading on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol "RB" (TSX VENTURE:RB).
