VISTA, Calif., May 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Eco Building Products, Inc., (OTCBB: ECOB) announced today the Company has successfully completed a six month regiment of in depth studies for microbial (bacterial and fungal) contamination on the dry film surface of the Eco Red Shield^™and Eco Blue Shield^™ series of coatings. The study included laboratory testing with correlation to real world field exposure which encompassed the manufacturing process, exterior exposure time and long term efficacy in the cavity of the wall. The Company is proud to announce that the results of this long term study proved efficacy of exterior exposure for potentially up to two years and efficacy within the cavity of a wall for the life time of the structure.

The Company engaged Siva Microbiological Solutions, LLC located in Bristol, Pennsylvania in October 2011. Lakshmi Sadasivan, Founder of SivaMS and Jeffery S. Hinkle, Ph.D., MBA has over 40 years of experience in microbiology, chemistry and coatings combined. The team set out to improve the Eco coatings for dry film efficacy against mold, fungus and bacteria from the manufacturing process to the end user structure. The Company found that the industry standard mold test ASTM D3273 was not representative of the "real world" environment. In deed Eco's coatings passed this test with ease however todays lumber in many markets is extremely high in moisture content or exposed sitting in very wet high humidity climates. In order for ECOB to respectfully claim protection against microbial attack a more comprehensive testing protocol had to be developed. The team spent many months developing a laboratory protocol representing the extremely high moisture environment. While current accelerated test methods may be suitable for some applications, we have successfully developed a proprietary protocol enhancement including substrate, pre-treatment conditions, and wild-strain, field isolates, to provide unique testing conditions enabling ASTM D5590 to correlate well with actual field application exposure results. This testing regiment successfully yielded a proprietary methodology to provide data allowing the team the knowledge to improve ECOB's formulation to offer dry film efficacy never before achieved in the industry.
