VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 19, 2009) - Sutter Gold Mining Inc. ("Sutter" or "SGM" or the "Company")(TSX VENTURE:SGM) is pleased to update its shareholders and other interested individuals on the status of short term permitting initiatives at the Lincoln Project.
Technical Studies and Initiatives in Progress:
The Company submitted a Wetlands Delineation Report prepared by Berryman Ecological of Weimar, California to the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as planned during the third quarter of 2009. The report delineated approximately one acre of seasonal wetlands that may be impacted by construction of select surface facilities associated the Company's Lincoln Project located in California's historic Mother Lode Gold Belt. The USACE completed their review and submitted their verification of the Wetlands Delineation Report to Sutter on September 28, 2009. This represents a significant advancement in the Federal Section 404 Clean Water Act permitting process. Sutter has retained Berryman Ecological to prepare the Section 404 Permit Application based, in part, on engineering design work by Golder Associates Inc. (Golder) of Roseville, California that is underway and scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2009. The Company plans to avoid impacts to wetlands to the extent feasible and mitigate remaining impacts consistent with our Conditional Use Permit (CUP) and Mitigation Monitoring Plan. Based on communication with the USACE the Company believes its efforts in this regard will reduce the area of impacted wetlands such that permitting will follow a streamlined permitting process (e.g. Nationwide Permit or Letter of Permission) expected to be concluded in 6 to 9 months rather than the process for an Individual Permit under Section 404 which typically requires 18 to 24 months.
Also during the third quarter, Golder completed a Water Quality Protection Standards Report for two permitted mine waste storage units, the Surface Fill Unit and Rock Storage Area, at the Company's Lincoln Project. The report includes a statistical evaluation of at least eight (8) quarters of groundwater monitoring data for each disposal unit. The report establishes background groundwater quality and proposes a monitoring standard, including monitoring wells and parameters for each of the two units. The Company submitted the report, in compliance with their Waste Discharge Requirements, to the Central Valley California Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB). The report is required prior to discharge of waste to the disposal units and is now undergoing an expected 45-day review by the RWQCB. This represents a significant advancement towards construction of the permitted mine waste disposal units and consequentially the Lincoln Project.
The Company has secured the major permits and approvals needed to construct and operate the Lincoln Project. These include but are not limited to a CUP issued by Amador County, an environmental review of the Project by the County pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act or CEQA and Waste Discharge Requirements issued by the RWQCB. Collectively these permits, approvals and associated documents provide the "road map" to project construction and operation. The Company is actively following this road map and systematically complying with the conditions of approval and mitigation requirements in the existing permits. In addition, the Company is in the process of obtaining the remaining lesser construction and operating permits and approvals (e.g., grading and building permits, Section 404 Permit, etc.) The Company is on track to obtain the remaining permits and approvals over the next 18 to 24 months as the Company completes final design, secures project financing and completes construction.
About Sutter
Sutter is a growth-oriented exploration and development company pursuing the goal of becoming a gold producer.
Currently, the Company's primary focus is the evaluation and development of the Lincoln-Comet zone of the Lincoln Project located on the California Mother Lode Gold Belt in Amador County. The Lincoln-Comet and Keystone zones have a NI 43-101 compliant Indicated Resource estimate (completed in February 2008) of 612,400 tonnes (673,600 tons) grading 11.3 g/t Au (0.33 oz/ton) containing 223,000 ounces of gold and Inferred Resources of 2,161,700 tonnes (2,377,900 tons) grading 6.6 g/t Au (0.19 oz/ton) containing 458,900 ounces of gold.
SGM currently controls over three miles of the Mother Lode, with 90% of the property still unexplored. Potential exists at depth on the known mineralized zones on both the footwall and hanging wall of the Mother Lode, and on the Melones Fault, which is the principal regional structure of the Mother Lode that exists on the eastern portion of SGM's property and mineral holdings.
In Mexico, SGM holds the rights to the geologically similar, high-grade El Alamo district of northern Baja, where historic mining to the water table produced mined grades of 30 to 60 g/t gold. Initial exploration with its joint-venture partner, Premier Gold, has demonstrated the extension of high-grade veins.
