BEAVERTON, OR--(Marketwire - February 26, 2009) - Cascade Microtech, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ CSCD ]), a leading developer and supplier of critical subsystems for the semiconductor industry, is announcing the celebration of twenty-five years of test innovation.

In 1983, Cascade Microtech's founders created the first microwave analytical probes that enabled the first on-wafer 18 GHz measurements. After incorporating in February of 1984, the small office in Beaverton, Oregon has grown into a company with offices in five countries, and sales and service coverage in over 30 countries worldwide. Cascade Microtech has evolved its engineering and production test offerings to include engineering and production probe stations and integrated systems, probes and probe cards, test sockets, and calibration tools. Its test and measurement innovations have resulted in over 145 patents for new technology.

"As bandwidths rise and speeds of computing and communications increase the industry has more opportunities than ever to provide new and innovative solutions," said Eric Strid, Chief Technology Officer, Cascade Microtech, Inc. Together co-founders Strid and Reed Gleason invented the world's first 18 GHz RF on-wafer probe in 1983. Cascade Microtech's probe technology has since become an industry standard for high frequency and precision probing technology and is used in a wide variety of applications from developing new design models for leading edge processes, to probing the minute features inside a device investigating failures to high volume production testing at wafer probe of RF and wireless devices. "Twenty-five years ago, Reed and I never would have guessed our initial technology would be required in so many applications across the semiconductor industry."

During the last several decades, growth in the computer, telecommunications, consumer and industrial electronics markets has increased demand for chips and has driven the need to keep pace with Moore's Law. "Cascade Microtech has kept ahead of emerging technology through focused research and development efforts that enable more precise electrical measurements in less time, on smaller and denser devices, with a high degree of robustness," said Risto Puhakka, President of VLSI Research. "Their precision measurement capability enabled semiconductor companies around the world to advance their technologies to meet Moore's Law."

Cascade Microtech's products test chips during design, where precision and accuracy are required, and during production, where rapid testing at high volumes requires reliability and repeatability. The company's strong presence in engineering test segments has given it high visibility of new chip processes and applications, and allowed it to successfully meet tomorrow's test challenges with next-generation technology.

"It has been a successful twenty-five years, yet we don't plan to rest on the accomplishments that have made us one of the leaders in precise measurement and test of integrated circuits," said Geoff Wild, Chief Executive Officer, Cascade Microtech, Inc. "The applications for semiconductors continue to evolve, and exciting new markets are on the verge of rapid growth. We will continue to develop innovative test technologies to enable our customers to stay ahead of the technology curve while maintaining full value from their investments."
