STUDIO CITY, Calif., Feb. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Twenty top Southern California female junior golfers will be paired with LPGA legends for an inspirational round of golf Tuesday, March 27, as part of the Kraft Nabisco Championship week at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage. Hosted by Amy Alcott, a member of the Southern California Golf Association, LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame, the fresh&easy-Kraft Foods Legacy Junior Challenge will reward the junior low amateur at the event a sponsor's invitation to play in the 2012 Kraft Nabisco Championship, one of the LPGA Tour's four major championships, set to be held March 29-April 1.

"Partnering with fresh&easy, Kraft Foods and the Kraft Nabisco Championship is an incredible opportunity for us, but more importantly, it is a chance for us to create more opportunities for girls in golf," said SCGA Foundation Executive Director Kevin Gigax.  "The Junior Challenge will showcase the best junior girls in Southern California and will also inspire many more girls to pursue their dreams in golf."

"We are honored to celebrate the incredibly rich history of women's golf at the Kraft Nabisco Championship while also providing an incredible opportunity for young female golfers to play with their idols and the game's best," said Tim Mason, CEO of Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market.

The event will be played on the Arnold Palmer Course.

"Kraft Foods is thrilled to partner with our friends at Fresh & Easy on the fresh&easy-Kraft Foods Legacy Junior Challenge. This opportunity will provide young golfers a chance to experience playing with LPGA legends as well as providing a truly special event for our fans to see the legends of the past 40 years," said David Blake Thomas, executive director & chairman, Kraft Nabisco Championship.

About the Kraft Nabisco Championship
The Kraft Nabisco Championship is golf's first major and one of the LPGA Tour's most prestigious events. Founded in 1972 by David Foster and Dinah Shore, the Kraft Nabisco Championship earned the designation as a major tournament in 1983. Contested at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., since its inception, the Championship holds the distinction of being the second oldest golf tournament continuously held at the same course. For many, the event is most distinguished by one of golf's most beloved traditions: the champion's leap into Poppie's Pond, located adjacent to the 18th green. In 1988, the first champion's leap into Poppie's Pond was taken by Amy Alcott, and since has become one of the most anticipated and memorable traditions in golf.
