Wabash National Corporation Hosts Inaugural Military Appreciation Event
Company Honors Veterans and Active Military Among Workforce
LAFAYETTE, IN--(Marketwire - Nov 19, 2012) - [ Wabash National Corporation ] (
"As a proud American company, Wabash National Corporation appreciates the many sacrifices our military personnel, with the support of their families, make every day to keep our country safe," said Wabash National Corporation President and CEO Dick Giromini. "We are privileged to have over 300 current associates who have served in the military and look forward to formally recognizing them through this event each year and with a permanent Wall of Honor in the process of being installed at our corporate offices."
He noted that Wabash National donates funding to several organizations that support American troops and military families such as the Wounded Warrior Project and Honor Flight Network.
Guest speakers at the event included Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski and Sergeant First Class Sabol from the Lafayette Armory and U.S. Army Reserve Center.
During the event, Wabash National made a contribution of $1,000 to the Lafayette Armory and U.S. Army Reserve Center, which helps military families maintain the homefront while a mother or father is deployed on active duty. For example, the organization may help with home repair such as leaky faucets or roofs, and other needs to support families and spouses whose loved ones are away.
"We are humbled by this outpouring of support and appreciative of companies like Wabash National that enable us to support our local soldiers and their families in several ways," said Sergeant First Class Sabol, Lafayette Armory and U.S. Army Reserve Center. "This gift will go toward upgrading kitchen equipment for events at the Armory and workout equipment that the soldiers use to keep fit."
Wabash National Vice President and U.S. Navy-Veteran Brent Yeagy led the flag-folding ceremony at the brunch to honor the red, white and blue. After the formal proceedings, attendees assembled care packages for sons, daughters and other family members related to Wabash National associates who are currently serving overseas.
Wabash National partners with several veterans organizations to recruit soldiers returning from active duty. Training received from the military is ideal for positions at Wabash National requiring leadership and strong inter-personal communication skills such as warehouse management, production supervisors, facilities management, transportation and logistics.
