LIVONIA, Mich., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. The transmission pump technology utilizes TRW's proven Electrically Powered Hydraulic Steering (EPHS) MPU design. More than 20 million EPHS systems have been delivered since TRW launched this product in 1998, and the Company has been continuously refining its brushless motor technology over the past 15 years. Additionally, TRW has already delivered more than 3 million transmission pump units. This pump technology also offers the potential to be adapted to other transmission configurations including automatic, manual, and even supports all-wheel drive with differential switching.

"TRW pump technologies are proving themselves to be highly adaptable to the transmission market," said Charlie Cregeur, director, Product Planning for Global Steering at TRW. "Our pumps are well suited for supporting applications in both the 'dry' and 'wet' clutch configurations. The growing success of TRW's Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) pump business comes from the fact that we differentiate ourselves from other pumps in terms of key performance requirements such as mechanical efficiency, cold start up response, low contamination levels and a very compact design."

The TRW units are based upon electro-hydraulic designs – well recognized in the industry as a key CO2 reduction technology. TRW currently manufactures pumps from its Ostellato, Italy facility to cover the European and American markets and anticipates localizing pump production in China in the near future to service the Asian market.
