Paris & Cannes, France, Cannes International Film Festival, May 12, 2010 - Technicolor (Euronext Paris 18453; NYSE: TCH) today announced its sponsorship of the Cannes International Film Festival premiere party of Universal Pictures' epic action-adventure Robin Hood, from director Ridley Scott. Technicolor provided a host of services to Robin Hood, continuing its long-standing relationship with Universal and Scott. The film opens the festival on May 12.
Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe reunites with his blockbuster Gladiator director, filmmaking legend Ridley Scott, for the epic action- adventure Robin Hood. Joining with Oscar®-winning producer Brian Grazer, Oscar®-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland and Oscar®-winning actress Cate Blanchett, they tell the story of the legendary figure known by generations as "Robin Hood", whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness.
"We are delighted to be working with our long-standing and trusted partner Technicolor on Robin Hood," stated David Kosse, President, International, Universal Pictures. "At Universal, we remain committed to providing the best quality production services on all of our releases. We're excited about premiering the latest epic film from Ridley Scott at the Cannes International Film Festival this week and are very pleased to have Technicolor's support at this event."
"Technicolor is thrilled to support the premiere of Robin Hood at the Cannes International Film Festival," said Frederic Rose, CEO of Technicolor. "We are honored to again be the trusted partner to Universal Pictures and Ridley Scott to deliver one of this year's most highly anticipated epic adventures to movie audiences around the world."
Technicolor's MPC visual effects studio produced 570 shots for Robin Hood, including CG armies, boats and digital environments - including the highly challenging creation of the invading French armada and ensuing battle with the English army. Additionally, MPC created CG arrows for various sequences in the film in order to facilitate a safer production environment for the cast and crew.
Technicolor's production services for Robin Hood included dailies and front-end laboratory work. Technicolor post-production services included digital negative film-outs and digital cinema mastering services. Technicolor also handled North American and International film release printing and North American film distribution to theatres. Finally, Technicolor will be providing DVD and Blu-ray mastering and replication for Robin Hood.
Technicolor has provided services to countless Ridley Scott-directed films, including American Gangster, Kingdom of Heaven, the full film restoration of Blade Runner, and five-time OscarÒ winner Gladiator.
The Technicolor-sponsored party of Robin Hood at the Cannes International Film Festival will be held on Wednesday, May 12, at 10:30 pm. The party will immediately follow the premiere screening and is open to invited guests only.
