BCCI secretary Jay Shah has praised India's senior players for participating in India's premier domestic T20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) for the 2024-25 season will commence on November 27, 2024, with the final scheduled for December 15, 2024, as announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. This season will see the return of key players like Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer, who were absent in the previous season due to injuries. The tournament will feature 38 teams divided into five groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super 11 stage, followed by the knockout stages. Shah emphasized the importance of domestic cricket in nurturing talent and providing opportunities for players to showcase their skills, especially with the upcoming IPL 2025 auction in mind. The BCCI aims to ensure that the SMAT continues to be a significant platform for cricketers to gain experience and exposure.
