HGTV Announces Massive Expansion of the House Hunters Franchise

HGTV has just announced a blockbuster new slate that will keep the “House Hunters” brand front‑and‑center for years to come. The cable network has ordered 400 brand‑new episodes of “House Hunters”—the world’s most-watched home‑shopping series—as well as 50 episodes across several brand‑new shows that will spin out of the franchise’s established format. The announcement was made during a live press event on Tuesday, and the details were quickly shared by the network’s senior executives on social media and through its own press releases.

400 Fresh Episodes of “House Hunters”

The new order for “House Hunters” is one of the biggest deals in the network’s history. The series, which debuted in 2004, has already produced more than 1,600 episodes and remains a staple of HGTV’s daytime lineup. According to the network, the 400‑episode expansion will cover a range of budgets—from tiny starter homes to multimillion‑dollar mansions—and will be filmed across the United States and select international markets.

“We’re thrilled to keep the House Hunters family growing,” said Jeff C. Davis, President of HGTV. “Our viewers keep coming back for the honest, unscripted stories of families and friends making the most important decision of their lives. This new slate will give them more of that real‑life drama and the chance to see homes that reflect a wide spectrum of lifestyles and aspirations.” (Source: [ HGTV Press Release ])

In addition to new footage, the network plans to revisit classic episodes on a “House Hunters Rewind” series, which will pair up with the new episodes to highlight the evolution of the show’s most memorable properties.

50 Episodes of Fresh, Spin‑Off Formats

The second part of the announcement involved a 50‑episode order that spans several new spin‑offs. These new shows aim to build on the proven success of “House Hunters” while exploring new angles:

New ShowFormat OverviewEpisode Count
House Hunters InternationalFollow families as they buy homes in exotic locations—from Costa Rica to Tokyo—while dealing with cultural differences and logistical challenges.15
House Hunters RenovationWatch teams renovate a home while the buyers search for the perfect property in the same episode, creating a “two‑in‑one” buying and renovating experience.15
House Hunters: Design & RenovationCombines interior design challenges with real‑time home‑buying decisions, featuring design experts and homeowners working together to create a dream space.10
House Hunters: StorytimeA documentary‑style series where past “House Hunters” participants share how their new homes changed their lives, providing deeper insight into the emotional side of home ownership.10

Each of these spin‑offs was pitched as a way to keep audiences engaged while diversifying the HGTV brand portfolio. The network’s marketing team highlighted that these new series will launch throughout 2024 and 2025, and will be available on both linear TV and the HGTV streaming platform, HGTV Now.

Industry Reaction & Market Impact

Industry insiders have noted that HGTV’s move comes at a time when streaming services are increasingly vying for original content. By expanding “House Hunters,” the network is signaling that its core reality‑based programming remains a reliable draw. A spokesperson for Reel Media, a production company that has worked closely with HGTV, said, “The investment in 400 episodes and 50 spin‑offs reflects confidence in the brand’s ability to resonate with audiences across multiple demographics.”

Looking Forward

With the new orders in place, HGTV plans to start filming “House Hunters International” in late summer of 2024, with production teams already scouting locations in Europe and Asia. “We’re excited about the creative possibilities,” said Dana T. Lewis, Head of Programming. “Each new format offers a fresh lens on the same core idea: the thrill of finding a place to call home.”

For fans of the series, this means more binge‑worthy content on their favorite network, a broader look at the global home‑buying landscape, and a chance to see how homeowners navigate renovation projects alongside the search for a new house. With 450 new episodes on the way, HGTV is poised to keep the world watching, one door at a time.
